✦ All FIMRC sites are currently operating via virtual volunteering ✦
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic site volunteering is functioning through vitual opportunities. Though this alters the experience and commitment of site volunteering, it is a great opportunity to gain shadowing hours, learn about our sites, and support them financially. We encourage you to check out the individual opportunities based on your interests!
The UIUC FIMRC chapter has been sending students abroad to FIMRC clinics in countries such as Uganda, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Peru since 2007. The chapter offers trips during winter and spring breaks (and occasionally during the summer if there is enough interest) for one to two weeks. Applications for these trips go out early in the fall semester each year and are typically due in September. The costs for these trips varies considerably from country to country, but the chapter makes an effort to fundraise for these trips with bake sales, Yankee candle sales, and letter-writing parties throughout the year as well as apply for SORF funding to help offset student expenses. In the past, some members have raised enough money to completely cover the cost of their trips.
