The UIUC chapter of the Foundation for the International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) was established in 2007 with the goal of improving healthcare for children worldwide. Since then, hundreds of chapter members have traveled abroad to FIMRC clinics in countries such as Nicaragua, Uganda, Costa Rica, and India on medical missions trips to work alongside doctors treating patients, put together health education programs for children in the local community, and learn more about the critical issues affecting healthcare for children in other countries. At home, chapter members have volunteered thousands of hours at food pantries, child education programs, refugee centers, nursing homes, and more to improve the local community as well. The chapter prides itself on its active volunteer base and its diversity of volunteering opportunities.
The UIUC chapter also fundraises extensively to fund Adopt-A-Projects abroad as well as purchase necessities, like medical supplies, for FIMRC clinics. Our main form of fundraising is through working football concessions where members volunteer their Saturdays to work at our concession stand during home games. For the Fall 2019 semester, we have raised closed to $3000, most of which will be donated to Adopt-A-Projects!
Beyond volunteering and fundraising, the chapter also hosts a range of social events throughout the year for its members, from barbecues to Curtis Orchard outings, movie nights, and everything in between. We believe in creating a family environment for all of our members and making them feel like they're a part of something special.
